After a decade without presenting a solo exhibition in Mexico City, Aldo Chaparro returns with fake gods, an exhibition curated by Tania Ragasol that brings together recent work and signals a shift within his practice: painting takes center stage alongside the sculptures and mobiles that have defined much of his body of work.

The starting point for fake gods is the way value is constructed in a culture permeated by visual accumulation. Altered seascapes, still lifes, sculptures, and mobile structures establish relationships between objects associated with luxury and materials considered waste or disposable. The exhibition observes these hierarchies without resolving them: what a society preserves, consumes, or discards also reveals its priorities. (...)
